From Pilapil to Concrete Pathways

Pilapil in the Philippines is popularly known as the small dike in rice fields for defense in flooding and also serves as an elevated path. Not everyone knows that pilapils have strong relationship with farmers in the most important period of their lives- the harvesting stage.

 

Notably, April and September are the months of reaping the fruits of their hard work. In between these months is the preparation for gathering a good produce. The endurance of the farmers to erratic weather either under the blistering heat of the sun or the sudden outpour of the rain makes a real manifestation of their industry. The threat of the weather alone is one of the hindrances to grow a palay and they are blessed to complete a harvest despite typhoons and other weather obstructions.

DSWD MARKS ADOPTION CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK

 

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 72. The first week of February of every year, is declared as the Adoption Consciousness Week. With the theme “ Isulong, Legal na Pag-aampon”, this year’s celebration will be from February 4-10.

This annual observance advocates domestic adoption so as to preserve the child’s identity and culture. It also recognizes the desirability of an inter-country adoption as the last resort for children who can no longer be placed for domestic adoption.

Adoption is a socio-legal process which enable a child who cannot be reared by his/her biological parents, acquire status wherein he/she can benefit from new relationship with a permanent family.

132 PANTAWID PAMILYA RECIPIENTS IN BICOL NOW EMPLOYED UNDER DSWD-DPWH TRABAHONG LANSANGAN PROJECT

About 132 recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the Bicol Region are now employed through the DSWD-DPWH “Trabahong Lansangan ng Programang Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino”.

Per Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both agencies last June 2011, the DPWH will employ Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries nationwide for its unskilled labor needs from year 2011 until 2016. Said workers will be deployed in various District Engineering Offices to undertake roadside maintenance activities such as cleaning of roadsides; desilting of drainage canals; and manual pothole patching.

PANTAWID PAMILYA TO SERVE 58,859 ADDITIONAL HOUSEHOLDS IN 2012

 

Some 58,859 households in the Bicol Region are now part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program under Set 4E and Set 5 for the year 2012.

These beneficiaries come from the following newly covered areas: 10,192 from Catanduanes particularly from Bagamanoc, Baras, Bato, Caramoran, Gigmoto, Pandan, Panganiban, San Andres, San Miguel, Viga and Virac. 19,940 from Albay particularly from Camalig, Guinobatan, Tiwi, Oas and Legazpi City. 3,953 from Camarines Norte particularly from Daet and Talisay. 16,037 from Camarines Sur particularly from Baao, Balatan, Cabusao, Canaman, Iriga City, Magarao, Milaor, Pili and San Jose. 794 from Masbate particularly from Cataingan, Dimasalang, Mobo and Palanas. 7,943 from Sorsogon particularly from Castilla, Matnog, Pilar and Sorsogon City.

NORMAN, A BOY TO EMULATE ( Norman Bolandrina,15 years old from Brgy Maulingon, Mandaon, Masbate is a Pantawid Pamilya Beneficiary)

Norman, a 16 year old boy from Barangay Maulingon, Mandaon, Masbate was desperate in life. This was after the death of her mother in August,2009 after giving birth to the youngest child. He has four younger sisters to feed, he having no permanent income. He has left no choice but to give up schooling, forget his dream to become a pilot and assumes the parental role to her four siblings. Norman would not also go with the idea of giving out his sisters inspite of the offers/suggestions from the relatives and neighbors who are willing to give custody to the younger siblings.
